Merrion Centre Set to Host the MOBOs Pre-Party

As the MOBO’s returns to Leeds on Wednesday 29th December, the Merrion Centre is preparing to help people get into the party spirit by hosting a day of music and entertainment.

In partnership with Leeds BID and Black Music Festival, the centre will be playing host to a wide variety of local musical artists. The main shopping mall will be filled with music and performers right up until the start of the awards.

Starting at 3.30pm artists will be playing a mixture of music, from gospel to grime. The three organisations are working together to ensure that all people, whether or not they’re attending the awards, can join in the celebration of urban culture and music that the MOBOs stands for.

Helen Green, Associate Director of Town Centre Securities, owner of the Merrion Centre, said:

“We are proud to be working with Leeds BID and the Black Music Festival to bring some fantastic local Leeds music artists to the Merrion Centre malls. We’re going to be dedicating the day to entertaining our visitors and get them in the MOBO’s mood!

“The annual MOBO Awards has become one of the most anticipated events on the music calendar and showcases the best in British and international urban talent. We’re very proud to see our neighbour, the Leeds First Direct Arena, host the event and wanted to show our support for such a significant event.”

The Merrion Centre has partnered with Black Music Festival before, recently hosting a ‘Salute to Reggae’ event in the Merrion Centre which attracted hundreds of visitors.

Heather Nelson, Chief Executive Officer of Black Music Festival, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Merrion Centre to showcase some incredibly talented artists and celebrate one of the biggest music events of the year.

“We wanted to find the best way to celebrate the awards being held in Leeds and are delighted to be working with the Merrion Centre and Leeds BID to bring a bit of fun and culture to as many people as possible. We hope lots of people will come down and see our artists as we all get into the MOBO party spirit!”

Leeds BID are also working with the Merrion Centre and Black Music Festival to create the before-party atmosphere throughout the shopping centre.

Andrew Cooper, Chief Executive of Leeds Business Improvement District, said: “This is going to be an incredible event and we’re very proud to be working with the Merrion Centre and Black Music Festival to make it happen.

We believe it’s vitally important to be celebrating big events that help put our city on the map and showcasing some of our own local musical talent will be the perfect way to do this.”

The Merrion Centre will be kicking off the musical celebration from 3.30pm on Wednesday 29th November.
