Merrion Centre hosts record Christmas countdown

Thousands of people have flocked to Merrion Centre to mark the start of the festive period and enjoy the leading shopping centre’s Christmas lights switch on.
Merrion Centre hosted what was its biggest Christmas countdown to date, resulting in a record 14,000 people visiting last Friday alone to take part in the festive family extravaganza.
Youngsters had the opportunity to meet TV favourites, Ben and Holly, whilst sports fanatics were able to see Leeds Rhinos superleague champions Rob Burrow, Jamie Jones Buchanan, Liam Sutcliffe, Jimmy Keinhorst, Tom Briscoe and Cameron Smith as well as a number of first team players from Leeds United’s Championship squad including Ronaldo Vieira and Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
Merrion Centre’s diverse range of shops, including leading food, drink and leisure brands, such as Hook & Line, Bengal Brasserie, Marcos New York Italian Restaurant & Bar and Sticky Sisters all got involved in the festivities by providing free samples and competitions. This was paired with free face painting and complementary mulled wine and waffle stands to really get people in the Christmas mood.
Helen Green, Associate Director for Town Centre Securities, the owner of Merrion Centre, said: “We’re delighted with the success of this year’s Christmas countdown; it was great to see so many of our shoppers join us at the centre to celebrate the festive period.
“At the Merrion Centre, we pride ourselves on making sure there is something for everyone and our Christmas programme certainly reflects this.
“We hope to see more shoppers visit the centre in the run-up to Christmas to visit our famous LED lit giant festive bauble and FREE Santa’s grotto, which is open from 18th November. We also have a winter garden with a magical post box for posting those all-important letters to Santa!”
