The Key Club opens its doors for the first time this week

Iconic nights that were once held at The CockPit are returning this week at a brand new venue: The Key Club, Merrion Centre. The CockPit’s debut night, Slam Dunk, which has been a favourite amongst Leeds clubbers for the last 13 years, will officially mark the opening of the club in time for Fresher’s Week on Tuesday 23rd September. Party revelers of all ages will be invited down for the launch opening weekend: Ignite on Friday 26th September and The Garage on Saturday 27th September.

The people behind Slam Dunk Festival, which won ‘Best Festival’ at the 2014 Kerrang! Awards have transformed the 2,600 sq ft venue allowing it to cater for live music performances. The new club which has a 10 year lease with Town Centre Securities PLC is the only dedicated rock venue in the city and has created 15 jobs for the local area.

Ben Ray, Director at Futuresound events states; “The Merrion Centre is the perfect location for us as it’s at the heart of the Arena Quarter. This part of the city is rapidly growing and we are now in close proximity to other live venues where we regularly promote gigs, such as the O2 Academy, Leeds Met SU and Leeds Uni. With the addition of Leeds first direct Arena and recent bar openings at the Merrion Centre, it made sense for us to be a part of this hugely popular development and we can’t wait to open our doors to Leeds clubbers this week.”

Helen Green, Associate Director of Estates for Town Centre Securities PLC comments; “The Arena Quarter is becoming a real hive of activity and a sought after destination day and night. We’re delighted to be hosting another club venue within the Merrion Centre, the new, unique offering of The Key Club compliments our existing portfolio of bars and eateries and we take pride in offering our customers diversity and choice.”
