Design our 50th Logo

The Merrion Centre is celebrating its 50th Anniversary on the 26th of May 2014. To celebrate this monumental occasion, we have partnered up with Child Friendly Leeds and are inviting school children from the age of 5 through to 16 year old to design our 50th anniversary logo.

The task is to design a logo (emblem, symbol, shape or small design) that represents the Merrion Centre and Leeds.

Students may want consider:
• Memories they may have of visiting the Merrion Centre.
• How they think the Merrion Centre and Leeds has changed over the last 50 years.
• What they think Merrion Centre and Leeds will be like in another 50 years’ time.
• Words that they associated with Leeds and the Merrion Centre.

The winner will be invited to a professional design studio to work with a Graphic designer to recreate and finalise their design so that it can be printed on all celebratory material including bunting which will be hung in the centre over the festive period. The lucky winner will also win an iPad Mini. The school of the winning student will also win £250 worth of art products.

The competition will run from the mid-March through to April the 30th 2014. All the entries that we receive will be unveiled and displayed in the Merrion Centre from the 26th of May until mid-July, allowing parents, grandparents and schools to come and spot their child’s master piece on display.

The judging panel will consist of representatives from both the Youth Parliament and Child Friendly Leeds, a professional designer and The Chairman and Chief Executive of TCS ( owners of the Merrion Centre) Edward Ziff. The panel are looking for a creative and reflective logo that demonstrates feelings towards Leeds and of course the Merrion Centre.

In order for schools to enter their pupils into the competition, please could you register below, no later than the 7th of April 2014. Please ensure that all children’s drawings comes with their name, age and school on the back of the drawing.
