Merrion Centre celebrates food festival with top Yorkshire chef

One of Britain’s best known chefs, Brian Turner, was at the Merrion Centre on Friday 7 June as part of the Leeds Loves Food festival.

The Yorkshire born chef did an hour-long cooking demonstration in the mall. Merrion Centre shoppers watched him cooking some cheap and cheerful dishes designed especially for a students’ budget.

On the menu, there was three tasty treats including; confit of chicken leg with slow roasted tomatoes, malton meatballs and grilled pickled mackerel on a vegetable stew.

Susan Mendoza, centre manager at the Merrion Centre said: “We’re a very popular destination for students and shoppers on a budget, so Brian has selected three delicious dishes that don’t cost a fortune to prepare. It’s great to be part of the Leeds Loves Food festival again this year. The event was really popular last year, and being Brian’s first stop of the day, we expect an even bigger crowd.”

Morrisons, who have a store in the mall sponsored the event and handed out free recipe cards and their monthly magazine.
