Making Dreams a Virtual Reality as Merrion Centre Supports LIF

The Merrion Centre will be transporting shoppers to a new world as it hosts a virtual reality experience in celebration of the first Leeds International Festival (LIF).

Running from 22nd – 30th April, those passing through the Merrion Centre will have the chance to enjoy a variety of experiences, including life as a pirate or the chance to try out different careers and job roles through Virtual Reality headsets.

The Merrion Centre is putting on the activity as a free event for shoppers to coincide with Leeds’ first International Festival. As part of the festival focuses on the future of technology, the Merrion Centre is giving visitors the opportunity to try first-hand some futuristic technology.

A lot of the events for the festival are happening close to the Merrion Centre, and the team at Leeds’ longest established shopping centre wanted to show their support. The Merrion Centre has been working with Leeds BID in order to support the ongoing programme of events and opportunities, such as LIF, that showcase everything Leeds has to offer.

James Broughton, Marketing Manager for the Merrion Centre, said: “The Leeds International Festival is going to be a brilliant event that we were keen to show our support. We thought it would be a great chance for visitors to the festival and all our shoppers to have a real-life example of some of the futuristic technology that LIF will be talking about.

“Over the past 12 months we’ve been looking at organising new events never seen before at the Merrion Centre, and the VR experience will be the first time we’ve tried anything like this. We hope lots of people will come and test out the VR games, suspend reality for a short period of time and have a bit of fun at the same time!”

The VR experience forms part of the Merrion Centre’s ongoing plans to host new events that coincide with other activity happening in city. Recent events have proved to be a huge success, such as the Merrion StrEAT pop up food offering and the celebrity studded Christmas launch event with plans to hold a whole new range of activities in the coming months.
