Jumbo Record Store Day at the Merrion Centre
Mon 23 Apr, 2018
Record Store Day number 11 was as manic and as fun as ever for Jumbo Records recently at the Merrion Centre.
The dedication of their fellow music fans never fails to amaze, with the person at the front of the queue been there since 11 o’clock the night before (9 and a half hours before Jumbo opened!).
The queue – stretching round the corner and half way across the front of the shopping centre at its peak – was full of people chatting, some of them making new friends and reacquainting themselves with old ones.
The biggest release this year – arguably one of the biggest ever – was the Led Zeppelin 7”. From that, via classic reggae, soul, punk and hip hop, to Florence & The Machine, David Bowie and a box set of contemporary classical and electronic music from Erased Tapes, there was enough diversity to bring together music fans of all tastes.
As well as the records, there was live music from X Ray Cat Trio and Serious Sam Barrett in the shop, and more in conjunction with Jumbo’s friends at the Social on Merrion Street.
All in all, a great day celebrating music and the various social activities connected with it.
