My Thai Crowned Best Restaurant in Leeds at National Awards

My Thai, located on Wade Lane in the Merrion Centre, has been named the ‘Best Restaurant in Leeds’ at the inaugural Best Restaurant Awards.

The prestigious accolade for the restaurant comes just two short years after My Thai’s launch at the Merrion Centre.

The British Restaurant Awards is an annual ceremony that gives people the opportunity to nominate and vote for their favourite chefs, restaurants and culinary services in core cities and regions throughout the UK. Members of the public nominate businesses and individuals before the shortlist is opened up for winners to be decided by a public vote. This year’s awards received votes from more than 275,000 people nationwide.

My Thai has also been entered into the final round of awards, which will take place in London, and is hoping to win the title of ‘Best Restaurant in the UK’.

Simon Grybas, co-owner of the My Thai restaurant, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have received this prestigious award and we are so grateful to everyone that voted for us. Our vision has always been to share our love of Thai food with others, and we are overwhelmed that through the loyalty of our customers and the hard work of our staff that our dream has become reality.”

My Thai, is known for its affordable and relaxed Thai dining experience, with a regularly changing menu using fresh and seasonal produce. It was also nominated for ‘Best Dining and Food Experience’ in the Yorkshire Evening Post Oliver Awards.

My Thai has proved extremely popular with visitors since it opened, climbing its way to second place on Trip Advisor for the best Thai food in Leeds and placed third for the best Thai restaurant in West Yorkshire. Reviews of the restaurant consistently call out the quality of the food and its value for money.

At the start of the year My Thai, underwent a huge refurbishment following its phenomenal success. The size of the restaurant was expanded to provide additional space and seating, the opening hours were increased and a whole new menu was introduced.

Bee Latham, co-owner of the My Thai restaurant, said “As part of Merrion Centre’s Wade Lane development we continue to go from strength to strength, enjoying a fantastic position with great footfall that is close to major attractions such as the first direct arena and ibis Styles Hotel. We constantly look for new and exciting additions to our menu and how we can ensure our customers have the best dining experience possible. It means the world to us to be recognised for our efforts.”

Helen Green, Associate Director of Town Centre Securities, said “This win for My Thai is very much deserved and is testament to the hard work and dedication Simon and Bee put into making their restaurant the success it is.

“We are delighted to have such a fantastic eatery within the Merrion Centre as we pride ourselves on ensuring our visitors have access to some of the best and most exciting restaurants in Leeds. We hope the Yorkshire community continues to support the My Thai and votes within the second round of awards.”

This is the latest success in a series of achievements for the Merrion Centre after it experienced record footfall in 2016 and received the ‘game changer’ award at the 2017 Yorkshire Property Awards.
