Merrion Centre plays Host to Rugby Fan Favourites
Tue 20 Mar, 2018
Rival sports and rival teams came together last week as Ronnie the Rhino and JT the Tiger spent a day at the Merrion Centre’s Leeds United store, signing autographs for fans and taking photos.
The event was in anticipation of Leeds United’s loan of its Elland Road ground to Leeds Rhinos for its game against Castleford Tigers. The rugby league neighbours of Leeds United will play Castleford Tigers in the Super League round seven match on the 23rd March.
The clash comes 30 years after the teams faced each other in the 1988 Yorkshire Cup Final. Elland Road is hoping to see record crowds for the match.
James Broughton, head of marketing and PR for Town Centre Securities (TCS), the owners of the Merrion Centre, said: “Since Leeds United reopened its store at the Merrion Centre it’s been a great draw for crowds and we’ve held some fantastic events there. We’ve worked closely with the club to continually run these events and allow fans to meet their heroes and create some lasting memories. We hope fans and visitors enjoyed meeting some people they didn’t expect at the Leeds United store and are excited as we are for the Elland Road clash.”
